Character Information

Character's Full Name: Baymax
Character's Pronouns: He/Him, though mostly just because that's how he presents and what everyone has settled on.
Character's Canon: Big Hero 6
Character's Canon Point: Not long after the end of Season 1 of Big Hero 6: The Series. Also including the Baymax! series and various web shorts in this though it's unclear where exactly in the timelne they fall.
Character's Age: About a year or (not counting testing phases)
Did your character willingly come to Iyashikei? If yes, why? Yep. And because it was what Tadashi would have wanted; Baymax is all about helping.
Will they need any special accommodations upon arrival? He'll need a charging station built for him, as his one from back home won't come with him. It won't be a problem for any tech-savvy officials though, as he can and will provide them schematics, so it'll just take a bit of time to collect/make the appropriate parts and assemble them. Baymax is happy to wait while they work.

Character's Personality: Baymax cares. That is the basis of his programming and personality. A medical robot by design, he sees virtually everyone as a patient and sees it as his duty to look after their physical and emotional well being. Originally, he didn't factor emotional well being into things, being interested purely in maintaining people's physical health, which led to a few awkward moments and made him somewhat difficult to work with, but interaction with Hiro and his friends (plus downloading a database on personal loss) has helped him develop beyond that.

While the jury is still out as to how much Baymax can actually feel, there's definitely more to him than simple programming. Apart from simply being medically intelligent and a capable diagnostic nurse (his original function), Baymax is also warm, caring, and extremely devoted to his friends, particularly Hiro. Part of this seems to come from the connection between Hiro and his late brother Tadashi, who created Baymax, but it's clear that Hiro has since found his own place in Baymax's robotic heart. The safety and well being of Hiro, his friends, and his other patients is Baymax's first, and in many cases his only priority. Baymax views himself, or at least his body, as being ultimately expendable. Indeed, as long as the primary datacard containing his personality is intact, Baymax's body can be repaired or even rebuilt completely as needed, but still, this says something about Baymax's self-image.

Being a robot, Baymax has a tendency to think rather literally, occasionally requiring various metaphors or concepts to be explained to him, but luckily he's a fast learner. Even if he's generally not fast anywhere else; 'generally' because his rolling case can keep up with a moving car if needed, but he has to 'unpack' himself to really do anything. Baymax tends to be careful in everything he does, and slow and considering in motion. In fact, he's stated specifically that he's not fast. This is likely part of his design, to avoid causing injury or distress by accident, but his extreme care at something as simple as maneuvering his pudgy body out of a corner can come across as rather comical at times. Not that Baymax minds looking comical, or otherwise awkward or foolish, especially if it improves someone's emotional state, and has stated that, as a robot, he's incapable of being offended.

Baymax is polite and courteous to everyone. Or at least tries to be. Sound medical treatment comes first, and he's not above, say, flopping against someone who's cold and wet and to warm them up with his internal heaters, or chasing down someone having a serious allergic reaction to make sure they get their histamine blockers. Post movie, he's gotten better about asking before doing such things (usually), but it still can be a bit awkward sometimes. He dislikes causing anyone distress, however, and will quickly apologize if he does so. His voice seldom wavers from its normal gentle, even, soothing tone, and his actions are equally gentle such as when hugging or holding someone, the latter being an extension of his above mentioned caution. He was designed to basically be as non-threatening as possible, and it shows.

Being designed to be able to learn and adapt, Baymax is somewhat curious and easily distracted by new things, sometimes at inappropriate moments, such as wandering off after a butterfly in the middle of a demonstration of his new super-hero armor. But this is more endearing than detrimental (especially since he can focus when necessary), and has certainly helped the development of his personality. This has led to the development of a fondness for cats (particularly Hiro's cat, Mochi) as well as making a number of new friends around San Fransokyo.

Baymax's medical programming forbids him from harming a human, and though many of Iyashikei's residents are not human and thus not technically included in this directive, Baymax will include them anyway, the simple reason being that he just doesn't want to hurt anyone. A basic precept of medicine is 'First, do no harm,' and it's one Baymax lives by. He will refuse any attempt to make him violate this directive, disallowing access to his datacore to anyone he believes intends to alter his programming to that effect. No one is exempt from this rule, not even Baymax's closest friend, Hiro.

In short, as stated above, Baymax cares. He cares about everyone around him, human or otherwise, and does his best to see to their health and well being, even if it's sometimes not entirely in line with their wishes. He's warm, compassionate, protective, devoted, and downright lovable. Everything you could ask for in a robot buddy, or a superhero.
